On Saturday, October 5th 2013, Heart of Hope Ministries presented Mr. Bill Nelson, Director of the Rock Island Parks & Recreation Board, with a check for $5,000. This was from funds received for the “Adoption of Denkmann Park” at 5th Street & 6th Avenue in Rock Island and donations given at our 4th Annual Picnic at Denkmann Park on August 17th. Over 200 residents attended the Picnic, including honored guests Mayor Dennis Pauley and Alderman Ivory Clark.
Mr. Nelson shared with us that the $5,000 will be able to purchase 6 new picnic tables, 2 grills, several benches, refurbishing of the water fountain, and help towards the installation of electricity in the park! We hope to also see repairs to the basketball courts and new signage and flower bed design. Heart of Hope Ministries Advisory Board and Ministry Team are extremely excited to be able to see one of our Visions of Restoration for the West-end Neighborhoods of Rock Island begin to take place!
We want to thank everyone who contributed to the “Adoption of Denkmann Park” Project! A special thanks to Modern Woodman of America for their $1,250 Matching Grant, and to Ms. Cheri Fahrenkrog of Landre Corporation for matching the $1.250 Grant! Additional special contributors include: Lynda Sargent, Coal Valley Days, Rosalind & James Burns, Pastor Farhley & Kathy Jones, Mrs. Karla Sandry, Pastor David & Sonya Geenen, Bill & Tootsie Dean, Anchored in the Lord Ministries Pastor Jerome & Cynthia Green, and Alderman Ivory Clark.
